Skinny Rx Side Effects: What to Expect and When to Get Help
By WPG Research Team · Last verified · Last updated
Skinny Rx side effects are mostly stomach problems: nausea, constipation, diarrhea, burping and bloating, usually worst when you start or raise your dose. SkinnyRx prescribes compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, so you can expect side effects like those of Wegovy and Zepbound. In FDA label trials, nausea hit 28% to 44% of people on full doses of the brand-name drugs. Rare but serious problems include pancreatitis and gallbladder disease.
We read SkinnyRx's own clinician handouts, its site, the FDA labels and FDA's compounding warnings on November 7, 2026. Here's what SkinnyRx tells patients, how often each side effect shows up in trials, the red flags and what to do.
Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.
Bottom line: Most SkinnyRx side effects are mild and fade as your body adjusts. The bigger risks with a compounded program are dosing mistakes and the fact that SkinnyRx's tablets have no FDA-approved version, so nobody has label-grade side-effect data for them. Measure carefully, raise doses slowly, and know the warning signs below.
The short answer
- Most common: nausea, constipation, diarrhea, burping, bloating, headache and tiredness.
- When: mostly in the first weeks and after each dose increase.
- Serious but rare: pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney injury from dehydration, severe allergic reactions and low blood sugar.
- Go to urgent care or the ER for: severe stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes, swelling of the face or throat, trouble breathing, fainting, vision changes or a very fast heartbeat.
- Never use any GLP-1 if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
What side effects does SkinnyRx list?
SkinnyRx's clinician handouts sort side effects into mild, moderate and severe. This is what SkinnyRx tells its own patients, from the handouts on its site checked November 7, 2026.
| Level | What SkinnyRx lists | What SkinnyRx says to do |
|---|---|---|
| Mild (common) | Nausea, constipation, burping, bloating, mild headache, fatigue. Its semaglutide handout adds diarrhea, heartburn and mild injection-site irritation | These usually improve with time |
| Moderate | Strong headaches, low blood sugar (shaky, sweaty, dizzy), trouble sleeping, ongoing fatigue | Reach out to your care team if bothersome |
| Severe | Severe stomach pain, yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine, swelling of face or throat, difficulty breathing, fainting, vision changes, very rapid heartbeat | Stop the medicine and go to urgent care or the ER right away |
SkinnyRx's semaglutide handout also names the serious risks to know: severe stomach problems, gallbladder disease, severe allergic reactions, vision changes, thyroid problems, kidney problems, pancreatitis and low blood sugar.
On its product pages, SkinnyRx puts it simply: "Side effects may include nausea, constipation, or diarrhea, especially when starting treatment."
How common are these side effects?
On full doses of the brand-name drugs, about 3 in 10 to 4 in 10 people got nausea. SkinnyRx's compounded drugs haven't been tested in trials, so the FDA labels for Wegovy (semaglutide) and Zepbound (tirzepatide) are the best guide to how often side effects happen.
| Side effect | Wegovy 2.4 mg | Placebo | Zepbound 15 mg | Placebo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nausea | 44% | 16% | 28% | 8% |
| Diarrhea | 30% | 16% | 23% | 8% |
| Vomiting | 24% | 6% | 13% | 2% |
| Constipation | 24% | 11% | 11% | 5% |
| Stomach pain | 20% | 10% | 10% | 5% |
| Indigestion | 9% | 3% | 10% | 4% |
| Fatigue | 11% | 5% | 7% | 3% |
| Burping | 7% | under 1% | 5% | 1% |
| Hair loss | 3% | 1% | 5% | 1% |
| Injection-site reactions | not in table | not in table | 8% | 2% |
Few people quit because of them. In the Wegovy trials, 6.8% stopped for side effects vs 3.2% on placebo. In the Zepbound trials, 4.8% to 6.7% stopped (depending on dose) vs 3.4% on placebo, mostly in the first few months.
Lower doses usually mean fewer side effects. SkinnyRx starts most people low and raises the dose slowly. Its microdose plans say they're "designed to minimize side effects." That's a reasonable idea, but we found no SkinnyRx data that measures it.

See which GLP-1 path fits youAre SkinnyRx tablets easier on the stomach?
Nobody has proven it. One SkinnyRx landing page says its tirzepatide tablets are "gentler on your stomach than traditional GLP-1s." We found no study or data behind that claim on SkinnyRx's site.
Here's why it's hard to know:
- No FDA-approved tirzepatide tablet exists. Mounjaro and Zepbound are both shots. So there are no label trials for a tirzepatide tablet, under-the-tongue liquid or gum-and-cheek tablet.
- The Wegovy pill is a different product. It's FDA-approved oral semaglutide, but SkinnyRx's compounded semaglutide tablets are not the same product.
- Tablets come with their own rules. SkinnyRx says to take the tablet first thing in the morning and wait 30 to 60 minutes before eating, drinking or other pills. You take them daily, so a missed day or doubled dose is easier to get wrong.
SkinnyRx's own handouts say compounded results and "tolerability can vary." Read more in our SkinnyRx tirzepatide tablets review.
Serious side effects to know about
These are rare, but they're on the FDA labels for brand-name semaglutide and tirzepatide, and SkinnyRx's handouts list them too.
- Thyroid tumors. In rodents, these drugs caused thyroid C-cell tumors. Don't use any GLP-1 if you or a family member has had MTC, or if you have MEN 2. Tell your provider about a lump in your neck, hoarseness that won't go away, or trouble swallowing.
- Pancreatitis. Severe stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting.
- Gallbladder problems. Pain in your upper stomach, fever, or yellow skin or eyes.
- Kidney injury from dehydration. Heavy vomiting or diarrhea can dry you out. Drink fluids.
- Severe stomach reactions. In Zepbound trials, severe stomach side effects hit 1.7% to 3.1% of people, depending on dose, vs 1% on placebo.
- Allergic reactions. Swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing.
- Low blood sugar. More likely if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea for diabetes.
- Eye problems in type 2 diabetes. Tell your provider about vision changes.
- Anesthesia risk. Tell your surgeon or dentist you take a GLP-1 before any procedure with sedation.
Birth control note: Tirzepatide can make birth control pills work less well. The Zepbound label says to switch to a non-pill method, or add a barrier method like condoms, for 4 weeks after you start and after each dose increase. SkinnyRx's intake form gives similar advice. SkinnyRx also says not to use these drugs if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Are side effects different because SkinnyRx is compounded?
The drugs should cause the same kinds of side effects, but compounding adds risks of its own. FDA doesn't review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality before they're sold. FDA has warned about:
- Dosing mistakes. FDA has reports of people, some hospitalized, who measured the wrong dose of compounded injectable semaglutide. Some providers also got the math wrong.
- Doses above the label. FDA has adverse event reports linked to compounded doses that were higher, more frequent or raised faster than the FDA label allows.
- Vials. Throw away a multi-dose vial 28 days after first use, even if medicine is left. Use a new needle and syringe each time.
- Shipping. Don't use an injectable GLP-1 that arrives warm.
As of May 31, 2026, FDA had received 990 reports of side effects linked to compounded semaglutide and more than 730 linked to compounded tirzepatide. FDA says these are likely underreported, because most compounding pharmacies don't have to report them.
SkinnyRx also got an FDA warning letter on February 20, 2026, about how it marketed compounded drugs. That letter was about marketing claims, not side effects. See is SkinnyRx legit and is compounded semaglutide safe.
What helps, and when to message your care team
SkinnyRx's handouts offer simple fixes for mild side effects:
| Problem | What SkinnyRx suggests |
|---|---|
| Nausea | Eat small, bland meals. Avoid strong smells. Try ginger or peppermint tea. Sip clear fluids. Ask about anti-nausea medicine |
| Diarrhea | Drink water or electrolyte drinks. Eat bland foods. Skip dairy, greasy, spicy and high-fiber foods and sugary drinks |
| Constipation | Add fiber slowly. Drink plenty of water. Stay active. Keep a regular bathroom routine |
| Heartburn or upset stomach | Eat smaller meals, avoid trigger foods and stay upright after eating |
| Fatigue | Rest, eat balanced meals and stay hydrated |
Other tips from SkinnyRx: alcohol can make nausea, low blood sugar and dehydration worse, so limit it, especially after a dose increase. If side effects are hard to manage, your provider may keep you on your current dose longer or lower it. Never change your dose on your own. If you've missed more than 2 weeks, your provider may restart you lower.
Message your care team in the SkinnyRx app if side effects are bothersome, which is SkinnyRx's own advice for moderate symptoms. We'd also reach out if you can't keep food or fluids down, or feel shaky or dizzy. You can also book an appointment through the portal, call SkinnyRx at 888-979-9580 or email support@skinnyrx.com. For severe symptoms, go to urgent care or the ER. See when to message your GLP-1 provider about side effects and what to eat for GLP-1 nausea.
Who should talk to a doctor before starting SkinnyRx?
Talk to a doctor first if you have:
- A personal or family history of MTC, or MEN 2 (don't use a GLP-1)
- A history of pancreatitis or gallbladder disease
- Kidney problems, or diabetes treated with insulin or a sulfonylurea
- Diabetic eye disease
- Pregnancy, plans to get pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Surgery or sedation coming up
SkinnyRx says its providers review your health history and may order labs, such as A1c, kidney or liver tests.
Can you get your money back if you can't handle the side effects?
Probably not once your medicine ships. SkinnyRx gives a full refund only if you cancel before a provider finishes reviewing your prescription. Once fulfillment begins, it's non-refundable. Its 90-day money-back guarantee only pays if your weight at day 90 is the same or higher than when you started, and you logged weight and doses every week. Stopping because of side effects doesn't qualify on its own.
Ask your provider about a lower dose or a different medicine before you quit. Compare refund rules in compounded GLP-1 refund policies compared.
Is SkinnyRx still worth trying?
For a healthy adult with no red-flag history, SkinnyRx's side-effect risks look like those of any compounded GLP-1. The stomach effects are common and usually fade. What matters most is careful dosing and a provider you can reach. SkinnyRx offers app messaging, appointments through its portal and phone support. Compounded drugs aren't offered in Alabama, Louisiana or Mississippi.

FAQ
What are the most common Skinny Rx side effects?
Nausea, constipation, diarrhea, burping, bloating, mild headache and tiredness. SkinnyRx says these usually improve with time. In brand-name trials, nausea was the most common, at 28% to 44% on full doses.
How long do SkinnyRx side effects last?
Stomach side effects usually show up in the first weeks and after each dose increase, then ease as your body adjusts. SkinnyRx says mild ones usually improve with time. If they don't, or you can't keep fluids down, message your care team.
Are SkinnyRx tirzepatide side effects worse than semaglutide?
In the FDA labels, nausea and vomiting rates were lower on Zepbound (tirzepatide) than on Wegovy (semaglutide), but the trials weren't head-to-head. Your dose and how fast it rises matter more.
Is Skinny Rx safe?
SkinnyRx uses licensed providers and pharmacies, but its compounded drugs aren't FDA-approved and haven't been tested in trials. Most side effects are mild. Use it only after a provider reviews your health history. See is SkinnyRx legit.
Does SkinnyRx cause hair loss?
Hair loss is a known GLP-1 side effect. It hit 3% of people on Wegovy and 5% on Zepbound 15 mg in trials, vs 1% on placebo. See GLP-1 hair loss.
When should I go to the ER on SkinnyRx?
Go right away for severe stomach pain, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, swelling of your face or throat, trouble breathing, fainting, vision changes or a very fast heartbeat. SkinnyRx says to stop the medicine and get care.
