Does SkinnyRx Work? What the Evidence Actually Shows
By WPG Research Team · Last verified · Last updated
SkinnyRx can work, because the drugs it prescribes work, but its own results numbers are self-reported by members, not proven in trials. SkinnyRx prescribes compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide, the same active ingredients as Wegovy and Zepbound. In FDA label trials, those brand-name drugs cut body weight by about 15% to 21% over 68 to 72 weeks. SkinnyRx's compounded versions are not FDA-approved and were never tested in those trials.
We read SkinnyRx's site, its clinician handouts, its terms and the FDA labels on November 7, 2026. Here's what SkinnyRx claims, what the data says, what it costs to find out if it works for you, and when its money-back guarantee really applies.
Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.
Bottom line: SkinnyRx's medicines have strong evidence behind their active ingredients, and SkinnyRx's own handouts set fair expectations: about 5% weight loss by month 3. Treat its bigger headline numbers as marketing based on member self-reports. If you want a treatment with label-grade results data, a brand-name program is the safer bet.
The short answer
Yes, for many people, if they take the medicine as prescribed and stay on it. Here's how the evidence breaks down:
- The active ingredients are proven. Semaglutide and tirzepatide have large, long FDA trials behind them.
- SkinnyRx's versions are not. Compounded drugs are made by pharmacies for individual patients. FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they're sold.
- SkinnyRx's tablets are the least proven. Every FDA-approved tirzepatide product is a shot. No tirzepatide tablet or under-the-tongue form has FDA approval.
- Results take months. SkinnyRx's own clinician handouts say visible weight loss often starts at 4 to 8 weeks.
What does SkinnyRx actually give you?
SkinnyRx is a telehealth company, not a drug. It connects you with a licensed provider who can prescribe:
- Compounded semaglutide, as a weekly shot or as tablets.
- Compounded tirzepatide, as a weekly shot or as a daily tablet that dissolves between your gum and cheek.
- Brand-name pills, the Wegovy pill and the Foundayo pill, through a separate SkinnyRx membership.
So "does SkinnyRx work?" really means two questions. Does the medicine work? And does SkinnyRx's version, dose and support work for you? The rest of this page answers both.
SkinnyRx's results claims vs. what studies show
SkinnyRx's results figures come from members reporting their own weight, not from controlled trials. We read the footnotes in SkinnyRx's site code on November 7, 2026. Here's what each claim says and what backs it up.
| SkinnyRx claim | What SkinnyRx's footnote says | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| "14.9%" average reduction in body weight | Self-reported data from 1,981 members on GLP-1 shots, with diet and exercise | No control group, and the length of time isn't stated |
| "27.1 lbs" average weight loss in the first 6 months | Self-reported data from 2,556 members on weekly GLP-1 shots | Members typed in their own weights |
| "11%" of body weight over 6 months on pills | Self-reported outcomes from 2,599 patients on compounded GLP-1 pills, as of January 2026 | The least-studied form, backed only by member reports |
| "Lose up to 10 lbs in your first 90 days" | Marked with an asterisk; a best-case "up to" figure | Not an average |
| "94.6% of SkinnyRx members see meaningful weight loss results within 90 days" | No method or footnote found | We couldn't check it |
One section stands out. It says "In clinical studies, participants taking semaglutide experienced" 14.9% weight loss "over 12 months." But the footnote under it says the figure is "based on self-reported data from 1,962 of SkinnyRx members." Those are two different kinds of evidence. The 14.9% figure does match a real trial: on the Wegovy label, people on Wegovy 2.4 mg lost 14.9% of body weight at 68 weeks, vs 2.4% on placebo. That trial tested brand-name Wegovy, not SkinnyRx's compounded version.
SkinnyRx's own disclaimers on its member stories say outcomes are "self-reported and unverified," and one says the members shown were "compensated for their time."
See which GLP-1 path fits youWhat the FDA label trials found
Here are the results proven in trials for the brand-name versions of SkinnyRx's active ingredients. These are the best evidence that exists for semaglutide and tirzepatide. They come from the FDA labels.
| Medicine (trial) | Length | Average weight change | Lost 5% or more |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy 2.4 mg shot (semaglutide) | 68 weeks | -14.9% (placebo -2.4%) | 83.5% (placebo 31.1%) |
| Wegovy 25 mg pill (semaglutide) | 64 weeks | -13.6% (placebo -2.4%) | 76.3% (placebo 31.3%) |
| Zepbound 5 mg (tirzepatide) | 72 weeks | -15.0% (placebo -3.1%) | 85.1% (placebo 34.5%) |
| Zepbound 10 mg (tirzepatide) | 72 weeks | -19.5% | 88.9% |
| Zepbound 15 mg (tirzepatide) | 72 weeks | -20.9% | 90.9% |
Everyone in these trials also got diet and exercise counseling. The results came from steady dosing at full strength for more than a year. A compounded product only matches them if it contains the right drug, at the right dose, and you take it the same way.
Is 10 pounds in 90 days realistic?
For many people, yes, but it isn't a promise. SkinnyRx's own clinician handouts give a more careful timeline than its ads:
- Weeks 1 to 4: Less hunger within the first few weeks. Many lose 1 to 5 pounds, mostly water weight at first.
- Weeks 4 to 8: Visible weight loss often begins.
- Weeks 8 to 12: Bigger changes show up. Many patients lose about 5% of their starting weight by month 3.
- Months 6 to 12: Many reach 10% to 15% or more on steady treatment.
For a 200-pound person, 5% is 10 pounds. So "up to 10 pounds in 90 days" lines up with SkinnyRx's own handout for that person. If you weigh less, expect fewer pounds. SkinnyRx says doses start low and rise slowly to limit side effects, so the first month is usually the slowest.
Do SkinnyRx's tablets work as well as the shots?
Nobody knows yet, because no trial has tested them. SkinnyRx's handouts say results with compounded forms are "similar" in timeline, but "compounded formulas are not FDA-approved; individual results and tolerability can vary."
What we know for sure:
- Tirzepatide tablets: Every FDA-approved tirzepatide product, Mounjaro and Zepbound, is a shot. SkinnyRx's tablet dissolves between your gum and cheek, and its liquid form is held under your tongue. No large trial has tested either one.
- Semaglutide tablets: The Wegovy pill is FDA-approved, but it's a specific brand-name product. SkinnyRx's compounded semaglutide tablets are a different product, and Wegovy pill trial results don't automatically carry over.
- Timing matters for tablets. SkinnyRx tells you to take the tablet first thing in the morning and wait 30 to 60 minutes before eating or drinking. If you skip that step, it may absorb less.
If you want a pill with label-grade results, the Wegovy pill and the Foundayo pill are FDA-approved. SkinnyRx offers both through its membership, and so do brand-name programs like Ro. See our SkinnyRx tirzepatide tablets review and SkinnyRx oral semaglutide review.
What it costs to find out if SkinnyRx works for you
Plan on about 90 days, which costs roughly $600 to $800 on SkinnyRx's monthly plans. That's how long SkinnyRx's handouts say it takes to see clear results. These prices come from the price list in SkinnyRx's site code on November 7, 2026. Confirm them at checkout.
| Monthly plan | Month 1 | Months 2 and 3 | 90-day total (our math) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compounded semaglutide shot | $99 | $249 each | $597 |
| Compounded tirzepatide shot | $99 | $299 each | $697 |
| Compounded semaglutide tablets | $149 | $299 each | $747 |
| Compounded tirzepatide tablets | $199 | $299 each | $797 |
Longer prepaid plans list lower monthly prices. SkinnyRx's intake form also warns that "prices are subject to change based on dosage increases." For the full breakdown, see SkinnyRx cost.
For comparison, Ro listed the FDA-approved Wegovy pill at $149 a month for new patients on the first dose on November 7, 2026. Add Ro's membership ($39 the first month, then $149 a month on a monthly plan), and that comes to about $784 for 90 days at the starting dose, by our math.
Does the money-back guarantee cover you if it doesn't work?
Only if you lose no weight at all and log everything in the app every week. SkinnyRx advertises a 90-day money-back guarantee. Its terms (last updated September 22, 2026) set strict rules:
- You keep a paid membership for 90 days in a row.
- You log your weight in the SkinnyRx app at least once every week.
- You log each dose in the app at least once every week.
- Your weight at day 90 is the same or higher than at the start.
- You've never had a refund, chargeback or credit from SkinnyRx before.
- You claim within 14 days after the 90 days end.
If you lose even a little weight, the guarantee doesn't apply. SkinnyRx can also audit your logs and deny claims that look incomplete. If approved, it refunds what you paid SkinnyRx for the compounded program during those 90 days. For brand-name pills, it refunds only the SkinnyRx membership fees. SkinnyRx says "less than 1% of customers" ask for their money back. We couldn't check that number.

What if SkinnyRx isn't working for you?
SkinnyRx's handouts say to contact your clinical team if you see no weight loss after 12 weeks, or if you stall for more than a month. Common reasons it's slow:
- You're still on a low starting dose. Doses rise slowly, and the provider decides when.
- Tablet timing. Eating or drinking too soon after a tablet can reduce absorption.
- Missed doses. SkinnyRx says not to double up.
- Normal slowing. SkinnyRx says most people lose fastest in the first 4 to 5 months, then slow down.
If a compounded tablet isn't working, ask about switching to a shot or a brand-name drug. Our GLP-1 plateau guide covers more fixes.
What happens if you stop?
You may regain weight. SkinnyRx's handouts say stopping suddenly "can lead to weight regain" and that providers may taper you down to a maintenance dose. Budget for treatment as an ongoing cost, not a 90-day fix.
Who SkinnyRx tends to fit, and who it doesn't
SkinnyRx fits a cash payer who wants a low first-month price and accepts that compounded drugs aren't FDA-approved.
It's a reasonable fit if you:
- Have no insurance coverage for brand-name GLP-1s.
- Want to try a GLP-1 for about $100 in month one.
- Will log your weight and doses weekly, which also protects your guarantee.
- Don't live in Alabama, Louisiana or Mississippi, where SkinnyRx's terms say compounded drugs aren't offered.
Look elsewhere if you:
- Want a medicine with FDA-proven results. Brand-name Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo is the better fit.
- Might have insurance coverage. Check that first.
- Want the most-studied form of tirzepatide. That's a weekly shot, not a tablet.
SkinnyRx also received an FDA warning letter on February 20, 2026, about how it marketed compounded drugs. Read our is SkinnyRx legit review for what that means, and SkinnyRx reviews for the full picture.

Choose a brand-name program if trial-proven results matter most to you. Ro sells only FDA-approved GLP-1s. On November 7, 2026, it listed the Wegovy pill and the Foundayo pill at $149 a month for new patients on the first dose, and the Wegovy pen at $199 a month. Its membership costs $39 the first month (refunded if you're not eligible), then $74 to $149 a month. Ro also checks insurance coverage for select drugs.

Safety note for any GLP-1: do not use one if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). A licensed clinician decides if any GLP-1 is right for you.
FAQ
Does SkinnyRx really work?
The active ingredients it prescribes, semaglutide and tirzepatide, work well in FDA trials. SkinnyRx's compounded versions haven't been tested in those trials, and its results figures are self-reported by members. SkinnyRx members report losing weight, but those reports aren't verified, and results vary.
How fast does SkinnyRx work?
SkinnyRx's clinician handouts say hunger often drops in the first few weeks, visible weight loss often starts at 4 to 8 weeks, and many patients lose about 5% of their weight by month 3.
How does SkinnyRx work?
You complete an online intake, and a licensed provider reviews it. If you're approved, a pharmacy ships compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide (as a shot or tablet), or you join SkinnyRx's membership for the brand-name Wegovy or Foundayo pill. Your provider adjusts your dose over time.
Are SkinnyRx before and after photos real?
SkinnyRx says its member photos and stories are shared with written consent, that outcomes are "self-reported and unverified," and that some members were "compensated for their time." Individual results vary.
Do SkinnyRx tirzepatide tablets work?
No trial has tested them. Every FDA-approved tirzepatide product is a weekly shot. SkinnyRx's handouts say compounded results and tolerability "can vary."
Can I get my money back if SkinnyRx doesn't work?
Only under the 90-day guarantee, which requires weekly weight and dose logs in the app and a day-90 weight the same as or higher than your start. You must claim within 14 days.
