Is Hers Weight Loss Legit? What We Verified in 2026

By WPG Research Team · Last verified · Last updated

Yes — Hers weight loss is legit as a real U.S. telehealth company. Hers is the women's brand of Hims & Hers Health, Inc., a public company on the NYSE (ticker HIMS). Licensed providers can prescribe GLP-1 drugs when they fit, and medicine ships from licensed pharmacies. "Legit" is not the same as "friction-free."

The reason people search is Hers weight loss legit is usually not "does this company exist." It's "will I get stuck with two bills, hard cancellations, or claims that don't match the FDA." That fear is reasonable. Below is what the public record shows as of November 5, 2026 — and who should skip Hers.

Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.

Bottom line: Hers is a real NYSE telehealth company, not a fake storefront. The catches are a September 9, 2025 FDA warning letter about compounded-semaglutide marketing, a pending FTC/California consumer-protection lawsuit with unproven billing and privacy allegations, and a dual membership-plus-medicine bill with a non-refundable first month.

Best for: Cash-pay buyers who want brand-name GLP-1 pills or pens from a big public telehealth brand and will read the two-subscription rules before they pay.

Not best for: Anyone who needs insurance to pay the drug, wants one simple all-in price, needs cancel-anytime with easy refunds, or has a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or MEN 2 (GLP-1 label contraindication — a clinician decides).

What matters most: Two separate subscriptions. Canceling the medicine plan does not cancel the membership.

Is Hers a scam or a real company?

Hers is a real company, not a scam. Scam usually means a fake storefront that takes your card and disappears. That is not what the SEC filings, FDA letter address, and live forhers.com platform describe.

Hims & Hers Health, Inc. trades on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker HIMS. The SEC lists CIK 0001773751. The FDA's September 9, 2025 warning letter names CEO Andrew Dudum and a San Francisco mailing address. Hers's own membership and terms pages describe licensed providers, a required weight loss membership, and separate medication plans filled through partner pharmacies (and, for some manufacturer self-pay programs, Gifthealth).

So if your question is "does this company exist and prescribe real medicine," the answer is yes. If your question is "will the billing and marketing match what I expected," keep reading.

What we actually verified (November 5, 2026)

We checked primary sources on November 5, 2026:

  • SEC company submissions for CIK 0001773751 (HIMS; recent 8-K dated October 7, 2026).
  • FDA warning letter page for Hims & Hers Health, Inc. dba Hers (HTTP 200; letter dated September 9, 2025 still live).
  • LA County July 29, 2026 press release on the consumer-protection lawsuit filed with the FTC.
  • Hers terms and membership from our November 4, 2026 headless Chrome captures (forhers.com returned Cloudflare/403 to automated fetches on November 5, so prices and term text below carry the November 4 check date).
  • Trustpilot and BBB profile URLs — bots were blocked; we use soft language only and point you to the live profiles. We do not invent review quotes.

We did not invent customer testimonials. Our editorial standards do not allow them.

The FDA warning letter (September 9, 2025)

The FDA sent Hers a warning letter about how it marketed compounded semaglutide. The letter is still published on fda.gov as of November 5, 2026. We found no close-out notice on that page.

FDA staff reviewed forhers.com in August 2025 and flagged claims for compounded semaglutide that included:

  • "Weekly injectable GLP-1 with the same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy"
  • "Clinically proven ingredients"

The FDA's point is blunt: compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. Saying they are the same as an approved brand, or calling the ingredients "clinically proven" in that way, was treated as false or misleading under the FD&C Act. The letter says those products were misbranded.

That does not mean every Hers product is illegal, or that Hers is fake. It means Hers's compounded-semaglutide marketing drew a formal FDA warning. On November 4, 2026, the Hers weight loss page we captured listed brand-name drugs with "from" prices (Wegovy pill, Foundayo, Ozempic pill, Wegovy pen, Zepbound, and others) — not a compounded storefront in that dump. Marketing can change. Read the current forhers.com page and the FDA letter yourself before you decide.

Brand-name GLP-1 drugs still carry label risks. People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) should not use these drugs. That is a drug-label rule, not a Hers-only rule.

Membership and billing red flags (the dual-bill catch)

Hers runs two subscriptions for weight loss: a membership and a medicine plan. That is the number-one practical "is this legit?" friction we see in the terms.

From Hers's membership page (November 4, 2026 check):

  • Membership: $39 the first month, then $149 per month
  • Medicine is billed separately
  • "Medication is not available without a membership"

From Hers's terms (last updated October 20, 2026, November 4 dump):

  • Cancel at least two (2) days before the renewal/billing date
  • First month's Weight Loss Membership fee is non-refundable
  • No refund on medicine after it ships
  • Canceling the medication plan does not cancel the membership
  • Canceling the membership also cancels the medication plan
  • Some manufacturer self-pay fills go through Gifthealth; that med bill is separate, and canceling Gifthealth does not cancel your Hers membership
  • Cancel in-app / My Subscriptions, at support@forhims.com, or 1-800-368-0038

Think of it like a gym membership plus a separate locker rental. Ending the locker rental does not end the gym dues.

For the fee math and what the membership includes, see does Hers have a membership fee. For all-in monthly cost, see Hers GLP-1 cost.

The right path still depends on your state, budget, insurance, and whether you want a pill or a shot. Our free tool sorts that in about 2 minutes, with no signup.

BBB, Trustpilot, and the pending FTC case — in balance

Public review sites show a mixed footprint, and there is an open government case. None of that alone proves Hers is a scam — and none of it should be ignored.

Trustpilot. The forhers.com Trustpilot profile is a real public page with thousands of reviews and a mixed mid-range score. We could not bot-verify the exact star count on November 5 (the site blocked automated fetches). Open the live Trustpilot profile and read recent 1-star and 5-star themes yourself — billing, shipping, and cancel friction show up often in this category industry-wide.

BBB. Public BBB listings for Hims & Hers describe an accredited business with a large complaint volume over recent years. Automated BBB fetches were blocked for us on November 5. Use the live BBB profile for the current accreditation status, rating text, and complaint counts. Do not treat any one complaint as a verdict.

FTC / California lawsuit (filed July 29, 2026). Los Angeles County announced it filed a consumer-protection lawsuit against Hims and Hers Health, Inc. as part of a nationwide FTC action. The County's own press release says the suit alleges false and misleading advertising, failure to disclose subscription terms, unwanted prescription medication charges without clear consent, difficulty canceling, and sharing sensitive health information with advertisers (examples named: Meta and Snap) without permission. The County seeks an injunction, restitution, and civil penalties.

Those are allegations in a pending case, not findings of fact. As of our November 5, 2026 check, we treat them as "open risk to know before you enroll," not as proven fraud. Follow the LA County release and any official court updates for status.

Who Hers is fine for — and who should skip

Fine for (with eyes open):

  • You want a well-known public telehealth brand and brand-name GLP-1 options
  • You will pay cash (or HSA/FSA reimbursement after the fact) and accept a membership fee on top of medicine
  • You will set calendar reminders for the 2-day cancel cutoff
  • You already compared Hers with Ro on price transparency and insurance help

Skip Hers (for now) if:

  • You need your insurance to pay the drug and want a provider that runs a free coverage check for pens
  • You want one bundled price and hate dual subscriptions
  • You need easy refunds after month one or after a shipment
  • You only want compounded GLP-1 at the lowest cash price (and you accept that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved)
  • You are under 18, pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding — talk to your own clinician first
  • You have a personal or family history of MTC or MEN 2

If brand-name GLP-1 with clearer posted dose prices and insurance-check help sounds better, Ro is the partner we usually send that reader to next.

If your priority is a lower cash compounded plan and you understand compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, TrimRx is one cash-pay option to compare.

Hers vs "is it legit" — short answers

Is Hers FDA-approved?

Hers the company is not an "FDA-approved" product. Some medicines Hers may prescribe are FDA-approved (for example, Wegovy and Zepbound for weight loss when labeled that way). Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. The 2025 warning letter was about compounded-semaglutide marketing claims.

Is Hers a legitimate telehealth provider?

Yes, as a real public telehealth platform with licensed clinicians in the care model. Legitimacy here means real company + real prescribing path — not a perfect complaint record.

Why do people say Hers is a scam?

Most "scam" talk we see in this category tracks to surprise bills, dual subscriptions, cancel timing, and refund limits — not to a fake company. Separate that from the FDA letter (marketing of compounded products) and the pending FTC/CA case (allegations). Different problems, different fixes.
