Does Hims Take Insurance for Weight Loss?
By WPG Research Team · Last verified · Last updated
No. Hims does not take insurance for weight loss, and it can't bill Medicare or Medicaid. You pay cash: $39 for the first month of membership, then $149 a month, plus medicine from $149 a month. You can use HSA or FSA money. If your plan covers GLP-1s, Ro or your own doctor is the better route.
Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.
The short answer
- No insurance. Hims' help center says: "Currently, we are unable to accept insurance."
- No Medicare or Medicaid. Hims' terms say it is not enrolled with Medicare, Medicaid, or any commercial insurer.
- HSA and FSA work by reimbursement. Hims says your GLP-1 medicine is eligible. You pay, then send the receipt to your plan.
- Two charges. A membership ($39, then $149 a month) and your medicine, billed separately.
- Best for: people paying cash who want brand-name medicine without insurance paperwork.
- Not best for: people whose plan covers Wegovy, Zepbound, or Ozempic.
GLP-1 safety: do not use if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), or if you have MEN 2.

What Hims actually says about insurance
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Hims help center, "Do you accept insurance?" (updated June 30, 2026) | "Currently, we are unable to accept insurance due to specific requirements that must be met for reimbursement." |
| Hims terms and conditions | Hims & Hers and its medical groups "are not enrolled with, and are not participating providers with, any federal or state healthcare programs (i.e., Medicare, Medicaid) or commercial payers." |
| Hims terms and conditions | The Weight Loss Membership "is not an insurance plan." You agree you are buying on "a cash basis." |
| Hims weight loss page | "Insurance isn't required." |
The answer is the same for every plan. Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE: Hims will not bill any of them.
What you pay at Hims without insurance
Hims lists medicine prices separately from the membership. These are Hims' "from" prices, so higher doses can cost more.
| Medicine | FDA status | Hims medicine price, from | Month one total (with $39 membership) | Each month after (with $149 membership) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy® pill | FDA-approved for weight loss | $149 | $188 | $298 |
| Foundayo™ pill | FDA-approved for weight loss | $149 | $188 | $298 |
| Wegovy® pen | FDA-approved for weight loss | $199 | $238 | $348 |
| Zepbound® vial or KwikPen® | FDA-approved for weight loss | $299 | $338 | $448 |
| Ozempic® | FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes | $199 | $238 | $348 |
| Mounjaro® | FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes | $1,899 | $1,938 | $2,048 |
Source: Hims weight loss page, November 3, 2026. Totals are our math: membership plus the "from" price. Hims says GLP-1 care is not available in all 50 states, and a prescription is not guaranteed. More detail is in our Hims GLP-1 cost guide and Hims membership fee guide.
Can you use HSA or FSA at Hims?
Yes, as a reimbursement. Hims' help center says the "full amount of your GLP-1 injectable or oral weight loss medication kit is considered a medical expense eligible for reimbursement." How much you get back depends on the money in your account and your plan's rules.
The simple way: pay with a credit or debit card, then send your receipt to your plan. Our Hims HSA/FSA guide walks through the steps.
HSA and FSA money is your own pre-tax money. It is not insurance, and it doesn't lower the price Hims charges.
Can you send Hims bills to your insurance yourself?
Hims does not say it gives you a claim form for insurance. Its terms say you have "sole financial responsibility" for what you buy, and that neither you nor Hims may get paid by Medicare or Medicaid for it. Ask your insurer before you count on any payback. Most people with GLP-1 coverage do better getting the prescription through a route their plan accepts.
Does Hims take Medicare?
No. Hims is not enrolled with Medicare. That matters more now, because Medicare has a new GLP-1 program.
The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge runs from July 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027. It gives eligible Medicare Part D members certain GLP-1 drugs for a $50 copay, per CMS. Hims can't be part of that because it doesn't bill Medicare. If you have Part D, read our Medicare GLP-1 Bridge telehealth guide before you pay cash anywhere.
If you have insurance: your better options
| Route | Good fit if | What you pay |
|---|---|---|
| Your own doctor and pharmacy | Your plan covers Wegovy, Zepbound, or Ozempic | Your plan's copay. No telehealth membership |
| Ro's insurance concierge | You want someone to check your benefits and do the prior authorization | $39 first month, then $74 to $149 a month for Ro, plus your copay. Insurance doesn't cover Ro's fee |
| Medicare GLP-1 Bridge | You have Medicare Part D and meet the rules | $50 copay for the drug, per CMS |
| Hims, paying cash | Your plan doesn't cover GLP-1s, denied you, or you'd rather skip insurance | $39, then $149 a month, plus medicine |
Ro says its concierge verifies your benefits and handles the paperwork, including prior authorization. That "typically takes between 1-3 weeks." At Ro, only the Wegovy pen, Zepbound pen, and Ozempic can go through insurance. Ro also says your $39 is refunded if you're not eligible for GLP-1s.
Check your coverage with RoWhen Hims still makes sense
Hims skips the insurance steps. There's no prior authorization wait. Prior authorization means your insurer has to say yes before it pays. If your plan doesn't cover weight-loss drugs, or it said no, Hims gives you brand-name options at listed cash prices.
Before you pay, know two rules from Hims' terms:
- Cancel at least 2 days before your billing date. The membership renews on its own until you cancel.
- Cancelling your medicine plan doesn't cancel your membership. The $149 keeps billing until you cancel the membership too. You can cancel in the app, under "My Subscriptions" online, at support@forhims.com, or at 1-800-368-0038.
