Does Hers Take Insurance? No — Here's What to Do Instead
No, Hers does not take insurance. It is cash-pay: $39 for the first month of its weight loss membership, then $149 a month, plus medication from $149 a month (checked October 2026). That suits you if you are paying cash. If your plan covers Wegovy or Zepbound, start with your own doctor or Ro.
Below: Hers' own words, what you would pay, why Hers can't bill your plan, and four routes by plan type.
Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.
Bottom line: Hers bills no insurer, no Medicare, and no Medicaid. Best for: Readers who will pay cash, want no insurance paperwork, and want to start fast. Not best for: Readers whose plan covers their medicine, and anyone on Medicare, Medicaid, or TRICARE. What matters most: Your plan's copay. Compare it with the $298-plus a month you would pay at Hers after month one (see the cost table).
What does Hers say about insurance?
Hers says insurance is not required. Its terms say Hers does not bill any insurer or government program. We read both pages on October 26, 2026.
| Where we read it | What Hers says | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Hers weight loss FAQ (Oct 26, 2026) | "Insurance isn't required, so there are no complicated insurance questions or health insurance plan considerations." | You can sign up with no plan. Hers never checks your plan. |
| Hers Terms and Conditions (updated Oct 20, 2026) | Hims & Hers and its medical groups "are not enrolled with, and are not participating providers with, any federal or state healthcare programs (i.e., Medicare, Medicaid) or commercial payers." | Hers is not in any insurer's network. |
| Same terms | You choose products and services "on a cash basis." Neither you nor Hers "will submit a claim for reimbursement" to a program or insurer. | No claims. Not from Hers, and not from you. |
| Same terms | The Weight Loss Membership is not an insurance plan. | The membership is a fee, not coverage. |
| Hims & Hers help center (updated Feb 16, 2026) | "Currently, we are unable to accept insurance due to specific requirements that must be met for reimbursement." | Hers has said no for a while. It is not a new rule. |
Your plan type does not change this. Blue Cross, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Medicare, and Medicaid all get the same answer: no.

The right path depends on more than insurance. State, budget, and the medicine you want all matter. Our free Find My GLP-1 Path tool takes about 2 minutes. You do not need to sign up or give an email to see your match. It asks 8 quick questions plus a state and age check. A licensed clinician makes all treatment decisions.
See your GLP-1 match in about 2 minutesWhat does Hers cost without insurance?
Hers charges two things. The first is a membership. The second is your medicine, billed on its own. The membership is $39 for the first month. After that it auto-renews at $149 a month. Medicine is not included. You pay both.
Here are the "from" prices Hers listed on October 26, 2026. Hers says prices can change with your dose, and a provider decides what you get.
| Medicine | FDA status | Hers medicine price, from | Month one with $39 membership | Each month after, with $149 membership |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wegovy® pill | FDA-approved for weight loss | $149 | $188 | $298 |
| Wegovy® pen | FDA-approved for weight loss | $199 | $238 | $348 |
| Zepbound® KwikPen® | FDA-approved for weight loss | $299 | $338 | $448 |
| Zepbound® vial | FDA-approved for weight loss | $299 | $338 | $448 |
| Foundayo™ pill | FDA-approved for weight loss | $149 | $188 | $298 |
Source: Hers weight loss pages, Oct 26, 2026. Totals are our math: membership plus the "from" price. "From" means the starting price. Your price can be higher at higher doses. Zepbound and Foundayo prescriptions can be filled through LillyDirect and billed by Gifthealth; see the pharmacy section below.
Three limits to know before you pay:
- The first month's fee is non-refundable, per Hers' terms. A provider decides if you qualify. The membership does not guarantee a prescription.
- Canceling the membership also cancels your medicine plan. You can cancel just the medicine plan and keep the membership. Hers says to cancel at least 2 days before your billing date.
- Hers is not in all 50 states.
One more check on price. Novo Nordisk's own self-pay page lists the Wegovy pen at $199 for the first two fills of the two lowest doses, then $349 for most doses. It lists the Wegovy pill at $149 to $299 depending on dose (NovoCare, Oct 26, 2026). Hers lists "from $199" and "from $149." Ask Hers for your dose-by-dose prices before you pay.
The honest part. Hers does not bill insurance. If your plan covers your medicine, that is a real cost to you. The $149 membership is never covered by any plan. But Hers skips the insurance steps too. There is no prior authorization wait. Prior authorization means your insurer must say yes before it pays. Ro says that wait is about 1–2 weeks. Ro also says cash patients can take a first dose in under a week. If you are paying cash anyway, Hers is a fair place to start.
Paying cash and want no insurance steps? Hers charges the $39 at checkout, and a provider decides if you qualify.
See if you qualify with HersCan Hers send a bill to my insurance or give me a superbill?
No. A superbill is an itemized bill you send to your insurer to ask for money back. We found no Hers page that offers one. Hers' terms say you will not submit a claim, and Hers will not either.
Here is what Hers does give you:
| Document | Does Hers give it? | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt | Yes. Go to the "Orders" tab in your account. | Hers FAQ, Oct 26, 2026 |
| Copy of your medical records | Yes, on request. Email support@forhims.com with "Medical Records Request" in the subject. | Help center, updated Mar 4, 2025 |
| Prescription screenshot | Yes, but it can't be used to fill at a pharmacy. | Help center, updated Mar 4, 2025 |
| Prior authorization or other forms | No. Hers says its providers can't complete, edit, or send "any kind of forms." | Help center, updated Mar 4, 2025 |
| Superbill | Not offered in anything we found. | Not verified |
| Insurance claim filed by Hers | No. Terms say no claim will be submitted. | Hers Terms, updated Oct 20, 2026 |
A prior authorization is a form. So don't count on a Hers provider to file one. That is our reading of the help center. Hers does not say it in those words.
Even if you could send a claim, Novo Nordisk's Wegovy self-pay terms say you agree not to ask insurance or "health care reimbursement" accounts to pay you back for self-pay purchases (NovoCare, Oct 26, 2026). We could not confirm whether that applies to Wegovy bought through Hers.
Can my insurance pay for Hers medicine at a pharmacy?
Maybe for some prescriptions. We could not confirm it for Hers' weight loss medicines.
Hers' terms say you can fill a prescription at a pharmacy you choose. If you do, you pay that pharmacy yourself, and Hers is not involved in that bill. Whether your plan helps pay depends on your plan, the drug, and prior authorization.
For Zepbound and Foundayo, Hers says providers can send prescriptions to the LillyDirect pharmacy. That pharmacy is run with Gifthealth. Hers' terms say you pay Gifthealth directly, and that is a self-pay program, not insurance. (Hers, Apr 23, 2026; Hers Terms, Oct 20, 2026.) We could not tell from Hers' pages which of its medicines are billed by Hers and which by Gifthealth. Check at checkout.
Even if a pharmacy fill works, the $149 membership still bills. Insurance won't pay it. If your plan covers the drug, going through your own doctor is cleaner.
Four routes if you want to use insurance
Pick the row that matches you. Each route lists what it still needs.
| Route | Best if | What it needs | What you pay before medicine |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Your own doctor + your plan | Your plan covers the drug and you have a doctor who will prescribe it | A prescription, and often prior authorization from your doctor. Your plan sets the copay. | No membership. Visit costs follow your plan. |
| 2. Ro's insurance concierge | Your plan may cover a Wegovy pen, Zepbound pen, or Ozempic and you want someone to handle the paperwork | A Ro provider must prescribe first. Insurance works only for those three. Wegovy pill, Zepbound KwikPen, Zepbound vials, and Foundayo are cash-pay at Ro. | $39 first month, then $149 a month. Or $74 a month on a prepaid year ($888). Insurance does not cover the membership. |
| 3. Medicare GLP-1 Bridge | You have Medicare Part D and meet the rules in the next section | Your own provider sends the prescription and completes prior authorization | No membership. $50 a month copay for the drug. |
| 4. Pay cash | Your plan does not cover it, denied it, or you do not want to use it | A provider's approval | At Hers: $39, then $149 a month. At Ro: same, or $74 a month prepaid. |
Ro's insurance steps, per Ro's own page: its concierge checks your benefits and sends the prior authorization. That "typically takes between 1-3 weeks" (Ro's insurance page lists 1–2 weeks in another spot). If coverage is denied, Ro says it can appeal. Ro says Medicare, a Medicare supplement, or TRICARE members "may still be eligible for certain cash-pay" options. Federal employee (FEHB) plans can use the concierge. Medicaid and some other government plans can't use Ro. (Ro, Oct 26, 2026.)
What the routes cost in fees
Medicine cost is on top. These are the fees you pay before any medicine.
| Route | Month one | First 4 months | Year one |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hers (cash) | $39 | $486 | $1,678 |
| Ro, monthly | $39 | $486 | $1,678 |
| Ro, prepaid year | $888 | $888 | $888 |
| Your own doctor + plan | $0 membership | $0 membership | $0 membership |
| Medicare GLP-1 Bridge | $0 membership | $0 membership | $0 membership |
Our math. Hers and Ro monthly: $39 + 3 × $149 = $486 for 4 months. $39 + 11 × $149 = $1,678 for a year. Ro's prepaid year is $74 × 12 = $888. We did not confirm whether Ro credits the $39 first month toward the prepaid year.
Here is a made-up example. Say your plan's copay is $60 a month. That is $720 over a year. At Hers, the membership alone is $1,678 over a year. Add the Wegovy pill at its $149 starting price for 12 months ($1,788) and you are at $3,466. That is a floor. Prices rise with dose. Your copay may be higher or lower than $60. Your plan decides.
If your plan's copay is below what you would pay at Hers, insurance is cheaper on money alone. If it covers nothing, cash is your path.
Think your plan may cover a Wegovy pen or a Zepbound pen? Ro's membership is $39 for the first month and Ro says it refunds the $39 if you are not eligible. Insurance does not cover the membership, and the insurance concierge is part of it.
Check your coverage with RoFor more plans and providers, see GLP-1 providers that accept insurance and GLP-1 providers that verify insurance for you. If your plan denied coverage, see GLP-1 providers after an insurance denial. To see how plans differ, read why insurers deny GLP-1 coverage.
Manufacturer savings cards
Novo Nordisk has a Wegovy savings offer. You can "pay as little as" $25, with savings capped at $100 per one-month fill. It is for patients with commercial insurance that covers Wegovy. Medicare, Medicaid, VA, DOD, and TRICARE members can't use it. It can't be combined with another coupon or self-pay discount. (NovoCare terms, Oct 26, 2026.) We found no Hers page that mentions it. Hers' plans are self-pay, so don't count on it.
What if I have Medicare, Medicaid, or TRICARE?
Hers' terms say it is not enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid. Ro says Medicaid and some government plans can't use Ro. Medicare, Medicare supplement, and TRICARE members at Ro may still use certain cash-pay options.
Medicare has a new path. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge started July 1, 2026. It runs through December 31, 2027. Medicare.gov says:
- It covers Wegovy (injection or tablet), Zepbound KwikPen only, and Foundayo.
- You pay a $50 copay for a one-month supply. The copay does not count toward your Part D deductible.
- You need Medicare drug coverage (Part D). You must be 18 or older.
- You qualify with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or more.
- Or a BMI of 30 or more plus one of these: heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or kidney disease at stage 3a or higher.
- Or a BMI of 27 or more plus one of these: prediabetes, a past heart attack or stroke, or blocked arteries in the legs or arms with symptoms.
- You do not qualify if you have type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, or fatty liver disease. Your Part D plan may cover your GLP-1 in those cases.
- Your provider sends the prescription to a pharmacy and, if asked, completes prior authorization.
Hers' providers can't complete forms, and Hers is not enrolled in Medicare. So we do not expect the Bridge to run through Hers. Hers does not say either way. Ask your own doctor. You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
Medicaid rules differ by state. See our state coverage research. TRICARE: Ro lists TRICARE members for cash-pay options only. Check with TRICARE about your own coverage. We did not verify TRICARE's GLP-1 rules.
What about HSA or FSA?
That is a different question from insurance. Hers says to pay with a regular credit or debit card and submit your receipt for reimbursement. Plans differ, so check with your plan's administrator. Our guide has the steps: Does Hers accept HSA/FSA?
What about Hers hair, skin, menopause, or mental health care?
Same rule. Hers' terms cover the whole service. It is cash-pay. Hers' menopause page also says insurance is not required (checked Oct 26, 2026). Some prescriptions may be filled at a local pharmacy, and Hers' terms say you pay that pharmacy directly. Whether your plan covers the drug at that pharmacy is a question for the pharmacy and your plan. We read the weight loss pages, the Terms, and the menopause FAQ closely. We did not read each Hers product page.
If cost is the real reason you asked
Many people ask about insurance because the monthly price feels high. If you are open to compounded medicine, there is a cash-pay option. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are sold. FDA says they should be used only if an FDA-approved drug can't meet your needs (FDA, Oct 26, 2026). As of May 31, 2026, FDA had 990 reports of problems tied to compounded semaglutide. It had more than 730 tied to compounded tirzepatide. FDA says it can't always tell if the drug caused them.
Compounded medicine is not the same as Wegovy or Zepbound. Insurance routes on this page cover FDA-approved brands only. On March 9, 2026, Hers said it was shifting its US weight loss business to FDA-approved brands. It says it offers compounded semaglutide only on a limited basis, when a provider decides it is clinically necessary.
Embody sells compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide for cash. Its site says "No insurance barriers." It lists compounded semaglutide at $69 to $79 a month. It lists compounded tirzepatide at $119 to $129 a month. The $79 and $129 prices show as sale prices against $299 and $349 regular prices (Embody, Oct 26, 2026). Longer plans are prepaid. Do I need insurance to use Hers?
No. Hers' FAQ says insurance is not required. You pay cash.
Does Hers take Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, or UnitedHealthcare?
No. Hers' terms say it is not enrolled with any commercial payer. Whether your plan covers GLP-1 medicine is a plan question. Check your plan's drug list. Our denial-reasons research shows why plans say no.
Does Hers take Medicare or Medicaid?
No. Hers' terms say it is not enrolled in either. Medicare's GLP-1 Bridge, which started July 1, 2026, works through your own provider and a pharmacy. See the Medicare section above.
Is Hers covered by insurance?
No. Hers' membership and medicine are billed as cash. Hers' terms say no claim will be sent to any insurer or program. A pharmacy fill may be treated differently by your plan. Ask the pharmacy and your plan.
Can I get a superbill from Hers?
We found no Hers page that offers one. You can get a receipt from the "Orders" tab. You can request your medical records by email. Hers says its providers can't complete forms.
Can I use a Wegovy savings card with Hers?
Novo's savings card is for commercially insured patients at a pharmacy. We found no Hers page that mentions it. Hers' plans are self-pay.
Is Hers cheaper than using insurance?
Only if your plan does not cover your medicine. If your plan's copay is below $298 a month (the lowest ongoing Hers total in our table), insurance is cheaper on money alone. Your plan decides your copay.
