Does WeightWatchers Clinic Accept HSA/FSA?

By WPG Research Team · Last verified

Not at checkout. WeightWatchers says you can't use an HSA or FSA card to sign up. You pay with a regular credit or debit card, then send your receipt to your HSA or FSA plan to be paid back. WeightWatchers says membership costs and weight-loss medicine may be eligible, and your plan may ask for a letter of medical necessity.

Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.

Quick facts (checked October 31, 2026)

  • HSA/FSA card at checkout: No. Use a credit or debit card, then claim it.
  • What may be eligible: Membership costs, weight-loss medicine, and dietitian visits, per WeightWatchers.
  • Receipt: In the WeightWatchers app under Settings, then Billings.
  • Letter of medical necessity: Your plan decides. WeightWatchers doesn't need one for you to join.
  • FSA deadline: If your FSA money ends with the year, buy by December 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Can you pay WeightWatchers Clinic with an HSA or FSA card?

No. WeightWatchers' FSA/HSA page answers this directly: "Can I use my FSA/HSA card to sign up for WeightWatchers? No. You must use a valid credit or debit card at check out then submit for reimbursement."

So the HSA or FSA money still can be used, just not at checkout. You pay first and get paid back by your plan.

A note on names: WeightWatchers now sells its GLP-1 program as Med+. WeightWatchers says its medical care comes through its own medical group, WeightWatchers Clinic. If you see "WW Clinic" or "Med+," they're the same program.

What can you get reimbursed for?

WeightWatchers' FSA/HSA page lists these as things that may be eligible:

  • Membership costs. Any WeightWatchers membership, including app access and Workshops.
  • Weight-loss medicine. Such as a GLP-1 your clinician prescribes.
  • Registered dietitian visits.

Med+ has two separate costs. WeightWatchers says "Membership and meds billed separately," and the GLP-1 cost isn't part of the membership. After the first two months, Med+ is listed at $74 a month on a 12-month plan, not counting medicine. Keep receipts for both.

CostWho bills itHSA/FSA tip
Med+ membershipWeightWatchersPay by card, then claim with your receipt
GLP-1 medicineYour pharmacy or insurance copayPrescription medicine is an IRS-eligible expense; ask your pharmacy how you can pay
Dietitian visitsWeightWatchers' dietitian serviceListed as possibly eligible; keep the receipt

Why can these count? IRS Publication 502 says "prescribed medicines and drugs" are medical expenses. It also says weight-loss program costs count when weight loss "is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease)." Your plan still makes the final call.

Do you need a letter of medical necessity?

Maybe. It depends on your HSA or FSA plan, not on WeightWatchers.

  • Points and Workshops memberships: WeightWatchers says you'll need a letter from your doctor that recommends weight loss for a specific condition, such as obesity, overweight, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
  • All other memberships, including Med+: WeightWatchers says to check with your plan to see if a letter is needed.
  • To join: WeightWatchers does not need a letter.

WeightWatchers links a sample letter of medical necessity on its FSA/HSA page that you can bring to your doctor. WeightWatchers doesn't say whether its own clinicians will write one, so ask your Care Team if you'd rather not go to your own doctor.

How do you get paid back from your HSA or FSA?

WeightWatchers lays out these steps:

  1. Sign up and pay with a credit or debit card. WeightWatchers suggests a pay-up-front plan to make claims simpler.
  2. Ask your plan whether you need a signed letter of medical necessity.
  3. Get your receipt in the WeightWatchers app. Open Settings, then the Billings tab.
  4. Send your receipt and letter to your HSA or FSA plan. Each plan's claim steps are different.

FSA deadline: If your FSA money runs out at the end of the year, WeightWatchers says you have until December 31 at 11:59 p.m. ET to buy a membership with this year's FSA dollars.

Insurance note: WeightWatchers' Care Team works with your insurance to try to get your GLP-1 covered. Its terms say you can't seek payment for Clinic services from government plans such as Medicare or Medicaid.

Safety note: GLP-1 medicines are not right for everyone. Do not use one if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), or if you have MEN 2.
