Two regulatory facts you should know
1. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are marketed. The FDA has issued warning letters to more than 30 telehealth companies in 2025–2026 for marketing compounded GLP‑1 in ways that imply FDA evaluation.
2. The shortage landscape changed. The FDA determined the tirzepatide injection shortage was resolved on December 19, 2024, and the semaglutide injection shortage was resolved on February 21, 2025. On April 30, 2026, the FDA further proposed excluding semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide from the 503B bulks list. Public comments are open until June 29, 2026. This is not an automatic reason to avoid every compounded provider — it is a reason to verify the pharmacy, prescription process, and sourcing language before paying.
