Does Shed Require Blood Work?
By WPG Research Team · Last verified
Usually not to get started. Shed's GLP-1 sign-up is a 5-minute online health form reviewed by a licensed provider, and Shed lists no lab step. But Shed says not everyone skips labs: your provider can ask for blood work before approving you or during treatment, and your next refill won't ship until it's done.
Weight Loss Provider Guide is an independent comparison resource for GLP-1 telehealth providers.
Quick facts (checked October 30, 2026)
- To start: No lab step in Shed's sign-up. You fill out an online form, and a provider reviews it.
- Can labs be required? Yes. Shed says your provider decides, and some patients will need them.
- What labs might include: Shed lists glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, or thyroid checks as examples.
- Lab costs: Shed doesn't publish a lab price. Fees paid to an outside lab aren't collected by Shed.
- Watch out: "Shed Weight Loss" in Texas is a different company, and it does require labs.
Does Shed require labs before your first GLP-1 prescription?
No lab step is part of Shed's standard sign-up. Shed's own "How it works" has four steps: fill out a 5-minute health form, have a medical provider review it, get your medicine shipped, and start ongoing support. Shed's help center describes the same path, with no blood test along the way.
That doesn't mean labs are never needed. Shed's guide to getting a GLP-1 prescription says your provider "may recommend lab testing before approving a prescription," and that "not all patients will need lab work done." Shed's examples are glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, or thyroid checks, and Shed notes that list isn't complete.
Who decides: Shed's terms say lab work and other clinical requirements are set by the independent medical group and your provider, not by Shed. Your health history and answers on the form are what shape that call.
Whether labs come up, and how much they cost, is one of several things that change which GLP-1 path fits you, along with your state, budget, insurance, and whether you want FDA-approved or compounded medicine. Our free tool can show you which fits.
See which GLP-1 path fits youCan Shed ask for blood work later in treatment?
Yes. Shed's terms say that when a follow-up is due, you must complete "any follow-up visit, lab work, or check-in your Provider requires" before your next fill ships. Shed also says doses are adjusted based on "ongoing labs and clinical review," and describes "lab tracking" as part of its programs.
What that means for you:
- Most check-ins are forms. Shed's routine follow-ups are usually an online check-in, not a blood draw.
- Labs are case by case. Your provider may ask for them based on your health, your medicine, or how you're doing.
- Delays cost you. If a required lab or follow-up isn't done in time, that cycle's medicine doesn't ship, and Shed says your plan keeps billing.
Tip: If your provider asks for labs, ask Shed support where to get them, what they'll cost, and the deadline before your next refill.
How much do labs cost with Shed?
Shed doesn't publish a lab price. Shed's terms refer to "independent lab fees not collected by Shed," which suggests that if labs are ordered, you may pay the lab, not Shed. Shed's 120-day guarantee terms say those outside lab fees are refunded only if the lab allows it.
Shed's GLP-1 plans start at $159 a month on its homepage. See our Shed GLP-1 cost guide for the full price breakdown.
Is "Shed Weight Loss" the same as Shed?
No. This trips people up. Shed Weight Loss (shedweightloss.com) is a separate Texas business with Arlington and Dallas locations and in-person visits. Its site says its provider "requires a comprehensive metabolic and thyroid panel" before writing any prescription.
| Shed (tryshed.com) | Shed Weight Loss (shedweightloss.com) | |
|---|---|---|
| How you're seen | Online form; some states need a video visit | Consultation, then an in-person visit |
| Labs before your first prescription | No lab step listed; your provider may ask | Yes, a metabolic and thyroid panel |
| Where it serves | Telehealth in all 50 states (treatments vary by state) | Arlington and Dallas, Texas |
If a search result tells you "Shed requires labs," check which Shed it's talking about.

FAQ
Does Shed require blood work to start a GLP-1?
Usually not. Shed's sign-up is an online health form reviewed by a licensed provider, with no lab step listed. Your provider can still ask for labs before approving you if your health history calls for it.
What blood tests might Shed ask for?
Shed doesn't publish a set panel. Its guide gives glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol, or thyroid checks as examples of what a provider may recommend, and says the list isn't complete.
Can I use labs from my own doctor with Shed?
Shed doesn't say on its site. If your provider asks for labs and you have recent results, ask Shed support whether they can be used before you pay for new ones.
Does Shed pay for lab work?
Shed doesn't publish lab pricing. Its terms refer to independent lab fees not collected by Shed, so plan on paying any lab fees yourself unless Shed tells you otherwise.
Will Shed stop my refills if I skip labs?
It can. Shed's terms say your next fill won't ship until you finish any lab work, check-in, or follow-up your provider requires, and your plan keeps billing in the meantime.
Is Shed Weight Loss in Texas the same company as Shed?
No. Shed Weight Loss is a separate in-person clinic in Arlington and Dallas that requires a metabolic and thyroid panel. Shed (tryshed.com) is an online telehealth program.
